First 2 Recruit Ltd is working on behalf of our client in Chard who are looking to recruit a Purchasing Co-ordinator ​on a permanent basis.

The role of a Purchasing Co-ordinator will be responsible for performing the detailed supply base planning and purchasing functions as part of a Production Planning & Procurement Team. You will be accountable for the supply management (domestic trade fulfilment and international replenishment) for all product lines and for raw material inventory levels.

The Purchasing Co-ordinator will support and work closely with Manufacturing Operations, Production Planning and Procurement. The role will include converting approved Master Schedule plans to detailed, sequencing Purchase Orders on a daily or weekly basis, and assisting Logistics in managing open orders from Release-to-Close.

The job holder will also manage purchase orders, communicate delivery schedules and expedite material. He/She will also be responsible for communicating supplier performance problems (sourcing, delivery and quality) to their Line Manager.

Main Duties

  • Maintain appropriate level of raw material inventory
  • Convert MRP requirements to purchase orders
  • Responsively manage Action Messages and Alert, applying criteria-based intervention
  • Expedite material as required
  • Frequently review and maintain the integrity of MRP parameters (lot/order size, lead times, Days Forward Supply, Safety Stock) and provide data for Key Performance Metrics (Schedule Compliance, Time Fence Violations, Work in Process Inventory Turnover, Projected Inventory at Risk/Stock Loss)
  • Convert constrained, feasible Master Production Schedules (Firm Planned Orders) to detailed and executable MRP-generated plans/purchase orders over an established rolling horizon period and with agreed-upon frequency
  • Act independently and routinely perform moderately complex planning and problem solving
  • Identify opportunities for inventory reduction and actively support implementation as directed
  • Participate in weekly/monthly Supply Planning Schedule reviews for one or more Work Centres and ensure appropriate follow up of agreed upon actions
  • Review and update current product availability information on a daily basis (Backorder Reason Code, expected partial/full release availability) and initiate relevant action
  • Coordinate as needed with Procurement for resolution of supplier issues (quality, delivery), or implementation of changes to the supplier base
  • Periodically review and disposition Excess & Obsolete, Unscheduled, Expired inventories
  • Support efforts to ensure data integrity of Book-to-Physical Inventory, BOM's and Routings, including the structuring of new parts in the business system.

Person Specification

  • Be able to work under pressure in a highly changeable environment
  • Work well within a team
  • An excellent communicator, both verbally and written.
  • Highly numeric with an excellent technical understanding of the products
  • Able to train and develop other team members to support the planning team

Education

Knowledge and Experience

  • Have worked within a planning environment
  • Have worked in an office environment
  • High level of ERP/MRP competency that includes part structures, routing and costing
  • Experience in product activity control, finance, accounting analysis, materials tracking and manufacturing operations.
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Familiar with and have worked in an AS 9100 (or equivalent environment)

  • Must be organized and have the ability to respond quickly to changes in the production schedule.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with department leads verbally and in written communications.
  • Must be able to work well within a team.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure.
