Editorial Assistant – Permanent, Hampshire

As an Editorial Assistant you will work closely with the Custom Editor and the sales and marketing teams to provide a great service to our client’s customers/clients. You will also work with the Production team to verse all work on the products.

Key responsibilities as an Editorial Assistant:

  • Maintaining the schedules from initial enquiry through to delivery
  • Scheduling and tracking of the products
  • Make sure the products are published on time and meet customer’s specifications
  • Keep up to date on archived documents
  • Data entry and spreadsheet management tasks
  • Support the sales teams
  • Assist with improvements of the custom process
  • Work with colleagues across the business to increase/generate custom presence in new areas
  • Assist with preparation for internal sales conferences and customer presentations
  • Various ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the Custom Editor

Key requirements for the Editorial Assistant role:

Academic qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

Work experience

  • Some work experience in an editorial or production role – ideally within the publishing industry

Skills

  • An editorial eye for detail and follow-through (perseverance);
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Good level of numeracy;
  • Strong organisational skills (planning and organizing);
  • Self-motivated and proactive (action-oriented);
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Ability to work to deadlines calmly in a sometimes high-pressure environment (composure and time management);
  • Ability to communicate effectively with sales colleagues and deal with wide-ranging and culture-specific demands;
  • Proactive and flexible approach to adapt to different customer types (e.g. academics, librarians, distributors)
  • Ability to learn new computer systems and good computer literacy

Desirable criteria

Academic qualifications

  • A-level grade A–C in English Language or English Literature or equivalent
  • GCSE Maths grade A*–C or equivalent

Work experience

  • Experience dealing with customers, both internally and externally;
  • Experience of administration in a busy office environment working to tight deadlines
