My client is a very successful manufacturer of high-quality products exported worldwide. They are looking for a highly skilled, experienced and proactive operations accountant to join their finance team. The operations accountant will play a pivotal role in managing the financial aspects of the manufacturing operations. You will be responsible for business partnering the manufacturing, supply chain and R & D departments and ensuring accurate financial records, optimising cost-efficiency, and providing valuable insights to support decision-making within the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Analysis: In-depth analysis of cost of sales and stock reporting for all UK operations, up to and including responsibility for management accounts schedules and narrative
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Effectively assist with the preparation and review of full UK group budgets to develop and monitor budgets, forecasts and financial models to align with business objectives.
- R & D: Develop an in depth understanding and have financial control of the UK R & D activity, with emphasis on accurate cost control for new product development
- Variance Analysis: Investigate and report on variances between budgeted and actual operational costs, providing insights to guide corrective actions
- Month-end: Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial laws, working closely with external auditors and tax advisors
- Process Improvement: Continuously identify opportunities to streamline financial processes within the operations department and recommend enhancements.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements to support operations departments and the wider business
- Relationships: Build strong formal & informal relationships with key manufacturing, supply chain and R&D staff
- Ad-hoc Analysis and reporting: Ability to pick up and successfully manage a number of assigned projects (e.g. financial control of significant fixed asset additions, internal finance improvements including major ERP system change and potential support to overseas operations)

Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent.
- Professional accounting qualification e.g. CIMA post or finalist (or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting principles and practices
- Extensive knowledge of manufacturing ERP systems
- Experience of writing SQL reports
- Ability to work as part of a small finance team, and thus willing to cover a variety of tasks
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude
- Ability and desire to develop into a more senior finance role
- Open to and keen to improve processes and working processes within the department and company.
- Able to form good relationships with staff across all levels of the organisation, and with the confidence to present to senior management.
