Warehouse & Logistics Manager – Special Projects - Chard (Full time, Permanent)

Our client based in Chard, Somerset is looking for an organised Warehouse & Logistics Manager to smoothly and effectively run the projects warehouse and logistics function – this will include projects in Europe.

The Warehouse & Logistics Manager role will involve the management of the receiving, repacking and distribution of goods to sites across Europe “feeding” our clients installation teams on a just in time basis and in a way that aids a smooth distribution and installation process.

Key Responsibilities as a Warehouse & Logistics Manager:

  • Plan and manage the daily, weekly and monthly activities of the warehouse and logistics function, enabling maximum performance and profitability
  • Maintain and ensure efficiency within warehouse space
  • Continuously work to improve the process’s and systems within the warehousing and logistics to support effective project delivery.
  • Manage Warehouse Team member
  • Be responsible for continuously challenging and improving working practices
  • Manage the inventory control, including maintaining an up-to-date stock control system
  • Proactively drive communication between the warehouse and other departments to solve issues in a professional manner.
  • Ensure processes and procedures are always maintained and adhered to
  • Work to improve communication and relationships with logistics providers and improve commercial terms and effectiveness.
  • Ensure regular communications with the Projects team to meet changing client needs
  • Ensure the warehouse is maintained to the highest possible standard, including house-keeping, damaged goods and warehouse security
  • Attend regular operational meetings
  • Monitor staff administration is being carried in-line with the company’s processes
  • Take on key holding responsibilities, being the first point contact for out of hours issues as well as health & safety and fire prevention issues

Skills needed for the Warehouse & Logistics Manager role:

  • A strong understanding of IT and technology systems (including SAGE & Excel)
  • Working knowledge of warehouse, distribution and logistics processes – ideally European
  • Great communication skills with the ability to negotiate and influence
  • Fantastic people management skills, with the ability to lead and drive their team
  • Be able to work under pressure, work to deadlines as well as be adaptable
  • Strategically plan and manage warehouse and logistics
  • Oversee receiving, storage, picking/packing and despatch operations
  • Keep track of stock levels, delivery times, transport costs and efficiency
  • Monitor product standards and implement quality-control programmes
  • Oversee the team and allocate resource as appropriate
  • Be physically fit and able for the position and every day warehouse tasks
  • A current fork lift licence
