Warehouse and Logistics Manager – Chard, Somerset

Our client based in Chard is looking for an experienced Warehouse and Logistics Manager, they’re offering a Permanent contract and a competitive salary depending on experience.

Main duties and responsibilities as a Warehouse and Logistics Manager:

  • Managing and maintaining the companies & legal requirements re health and safety at all times
  • Ensuring appropriate manning levels and appropriate skill levels in line with demand.
  • Supervision of the Warehouse Team Leaders
  • Manage individual and team performance levels & Identification of training needs
  • Work with other stakeholders in the business to develop ways of working and align warehousing, logistics with Production needs
  • Optimise all processes (systems and operational) with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Ensure delivery Drivers & Installers are fully equipped, trained, courteous & represent the client professionally at all times.
  • Develop appropriate procedures and systems to ensure on time kitting to production plan and management of returned materials to stores/suppliers
  • Negotiate, appoint and maintain collaborative relationships with managed 3PLs, couriers and Freight Forwarders
  • Working with other stakeholders to develop appropriate packaging specifications and handling systems to minimise damage
  • Manage contractual terms & agree KPIs with logistics service providers
  • Propose internal KPI performance reporting and reporting timetable
  • Formalise and implement SOPs and supporting training to maintain and improve ways of working
  • Plan the delivery and despatch of goods in a cost-effective and efficient manner
  • Develop & Implement appropriate goods received systems; provision of supporting training;
  • Implementation of goods inwards performance reporting & management of dispute resolution with suppliers
  • Effective planning of stores & warehousing space to optimise space availability; ensure safe storage; clear identification of stored goods; efficient retrieval of goods
  • Develop appropriate systems to ensure stock accuracy; introduction of cyclical counting; monthly location audits and upkeep of system data
  • Work with other stakeholders in the business to develop stock reduction policies
  • Work with other stakeholders within the business to ensure cost visibility

Skills and experienced needs for the Warehouse and Logistics Manager role:

  • Considerable experience of effective management of a warehousing, stores and logistics operation within a busy manufacturing environment
  • Effective communication at all levels across a business
  • An understanding of UK & international logistics and supporting paperwork & technical requirements
  • Experience of managing and getting most out of Logistics service providers
  • Enthusiasm to get the job done
  • A “can do” approach and passion for quality service
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and the ability to define, cost and deliver quality solutions
  • Ability and confidence to challenge intelligently
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Line management experience ensuring procedures are followed at all times
  • Work scheduling experience/understanding would be an advantage
  • Health and Safety knowledge
  • Ability to work to timescales and meet deadlines
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Able to build and maintain effective team working relationships across both internal and external contact.
  • Numerate, analytical and IT literate with good verbal and written communication skills
  • ·Honest, reliable, personable team player willing to ‘pitch in’ as required
